Cottages near the Wheatsheaf
postcard showing the cottages

Rushden Echo & Argus, 1955, transcribed by Jim Hollis
Part of the ‘Spotlight on Rushden’ series

It looks like wood but it’s carved in stone

Probably the oldest houses in Rushden are the cottages near the Wheatsheaf, where Mrs K O Marriott lives.

Fireplaces and decoration inside her home were cut in stone by ancestors, who were master masons, and Mrs Marriott delights to keep her house as a Victorian period piece.

Among her treasures is a photograph which may be the earliest example in the form of the photographer’s art. It was taken on glass by her grandfather eighty years ago.
