It looks like wood but it’s carved in stone
Probably the oldest houses in Rushden are the cottages near the Wheatsheaf, where Mrs K O Marriott lives.
Fireplaces and decoration inside her home were cut in stone by ancestors, who were master masons, and Mrs Marriott delights to keep her house as a Victorian period piece.
Among her treasures is a photograph which may be the earliest example in the form of the photographer’s art. It was taken on glass by her grandfather eighty years ago.
