New Putting Green Opened - Band Music During Games

Deputising for Mr. John White (the principal of the firm of Messrs. John White, Impregnable Boots, Ltd., Rushden), Mr. L. Bradshaw, secretary of the company, officially declared the Impregnable Sports Ground on Bedford-road, Rushden, open on Saturday afternoon and he also opened the new acquisition to the ground, a splendid 18 holes putting green. The Rushden Temperance Band were present and played much appreciated selections during the afternoon.

Mr. Bradshaw said that their club was financially a distinct success. During the last year’s working they had reduced their indebtedness by £200 and at that rate it would not be long before the loan was wiped out. From a playing point of view cricket, tennis and bowls had all done well. The bowling green had been re-laid since last season and was now in excellent condition. Now they had got their own putting green of 18 holes, which he was sure would be a very popular addition to their well equipped ground. A set of rules had been drawn up for membership of the club and he appealed to all the members to act by those rules. Mr. Bradshaw welcomed the Temperance Band and said it was very good of the members to have come. Finally he thanked all who had worked to make the opening day a success and he wished all the sections of the club a “bumping success” in their competitive games in the coming season.

Mrs. Elmer, a forewoman and the only lady member of the Sports Club committee, made the first drive on the new putting green and it was then much in use during the afternoon.

A bowls drive, tennis games and cricket practice were taken up by other sections of the club. An excellent tea was served in the pavilion.
