Evening Telegraph, 27th October 1969

Mr. John Chamberlain, chairman of Rushden branch of the British Boot and Shoe Institution for the past two years, was presented with a barometer by the new chairman, Mr. Horace Maidwell, on Saturday night.

The presentation took place at Overstone Solarium. Mr. Maidwell toasted the institution and the visitors, who were headed by Mr. J. H. Thornton, master of the Guild of Cordwainers.

Responding to the toast to the institution, Mr. G. N. Barrett, immediate past treasurer of the institution, said that it was still thriving after 42 years. He said that the institution was young looking and progressive. After the dinner there was dancing to Art Lewis and his orchestra.
