Rushden Echo & Argus, 17th May 1918, transcribed by Kay Collins
Mr John Clark
Mr John Clark, sen., Passes Away

An octogenarian native of Rushden passed away on Friday last at 68, Moor-road, in the person of Mr John Clark, father of Mr John Clark, boot manufacturer, and Mr Charles Clark, of “Wellingtonia”, Rushden. The deceased who was 82 years of age, was born in Rushden, and with the exception of about 20 years, when he lived at Higham Ferrers, he spent the whole of his life in his native town. The late Mr Clark was a wonderful man for his age, and was in possession of most of his faculties. Up to five weeks ago he used to take a daily walk to visit one or other of his sons or daughters, and his death was due to no other cause but that of old age. Since the erection of the Mission Hall, Wellingboro’-road he regularly attended the services, being a member of that place of worship.

The funeral took place on Tuesday afternoon at the cemetery, the first portion of the obsequies being conducted in the Wellingborough-road Mission Hall by the Rev C J Keeler, who also officiated at the graveside. The coffin, which was of plain polished oak with brass fittings bore the inscription:-

The mourners were as follow: Mr and Mrs Wm Clark (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs John Clark (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Andrews (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs Chas Clark (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs Fred Clark (son and daughter-in-law), Ald and Mrs H Clark, of Rochdale (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs T Wheeler (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs H Ballard, of Kettering (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs A Clark, of Wellingborough (son and daughter-in-law), Mr and Mrs A Neal (son-in-law and daughter), Mr and Mrs Jas Clark (brother and sister-in-law), Mr James Warren, of Leicester (brother-in-law), and Mrs E Bailey (sister-in-law).
