Rushden Echo, 30th April 1915, transcribed by Gill Hollis
Mr. John Shortland
Funeral

On Saturday last the remains of the late Mr. John Shortland, of Harrowden House, Portland-road, Rushden, were laid to rest in Rushden Cemetery, amid many signs of mourning. Mr. Shortland, who was well known throughout the district and was very popular with all, will be much missed by his family, to whom our sympathies are extended, with the sympathies of a large circle of friends. The Rev. James Crook, of Leicester (an old friend of the deceased), conducted the burial service throughout, the first portion of which was held in the Zion Chapel, Station-road, where deceased had been a regular member and had acted as organist for a number of years.
