History was made in 1840, for in that year one Benjamin Denton introduced the shoe trade to Rushden. He established himself in business as a currier and boot manufacturer.
In due course his son, George Denton, joined Benjamin in the business which became known as B. Denton and Son. These were pioneering daysdays when shoemaking as an industry was in the making.
B. Denton and Son led the way. They have been pioneers ever since. They installed the first Blake sewer in the townand had to put both machine and operator behind locked doors to protect him from the fury of the "die-hards".
So it has been through the yearsfrom father to son. First Benjamin, then his son George, then his son's son, also George, and now his son's son's son, George H.four generations of shoemakers, and the name of B. Denton and Son still stands for professional development in the shoe industry of Rushden in 1955.
